Who Am I And Why Should I Be Your Health & Fitness
Coach?
Do
you see the uncomfortable-looking DJ dude on the
left in the picture? That was me just a couple of
years ago. You see, I have been a professional Club
and radio DJ for more than 15 years. Throughout
my career, many people would come up to me while
I was spinning, and say how they wish they could
live the life that I lived as a DJ. Many would comment
on how cool it was for me to be in the spotlight,
getting free drinks all night,playing all over the
country, staying in fancy hotels, eating room service
every other night, sleeping all day and partying
all night.....yeah, the life! Woo hoo! Yeah right!
Throw in constant late night eating sessions at
Denny's, IHOP, and Jack-In-The-Crack, and you have
a recipe for DJ Sincere to become DJ Uncomfortably
Fat! Did I mention that somewhere in the mix, I
also got married? Since I was no longer on the market
during that time in my life, I really let myself
go...geez. You'd think someone who's genetically
predisposed to having high blood pressure, cancer,
diabetes, bronchitis, and who almost died at age
four to a severe case of asthma and pneumonia, would
take better care of himself.
Well, my life wasn't always like this. I participated
in basketball, marching band, and football in my
junior high years, and was very accomplished in
varsity football and track in high school. I even
tried my hand at tennis for a while. After graduation,
I set off to college and moved to Houston, what
would be later known as America's Fattest City.
Boy, did I know it. I truly abused the phrase "The
Freshmen 15!" During this time, I truly started
to focus on DJing. Once, my DJ career started to
take off, those overabundance of Houston restaurants
soon became my second home, thanks to late night
eating and well paying gigs. Thus, the story of
my unhealthy life began.........until.........fast-forward
about 10 years...

While cleaning out the garage on my 31st birthday,
I ran across some old photos from my beginning years
of college, some from a couple of years before DJing
became a serious career for me, and the before and
after wedding pictures. It was that day that I saw
"me" for the first time. I went from a small
155 pound college freshman to a 215 pound married
father of 3, all within the swearing in of two presidents.
I knew I had to do something about it, or pretty soon,
I would not be around to take many more pictures.
I quickly joined a local YMCA, and I read every book,
magazine, website, etc. on nutrition and weight training
I could find. I wanted to feel like "me"
again. I wanted to look and feel great, regain my
energy, and actually "exist" during daylight
hours..lol. I realized it was not too late for me,
and I "decided" to just do it and not wait
for anymore excuses to get started on getting in shape.
During, the process, my friends took notice and began
to ask how I did it, and what could they do to change
the way they looked and felt. Of course, I helped
them. They were my friends, and we all know birds
of a feather.....One of my best friends suggested,
since I was so good at motivating people and designing
workouts that really worked, I should leave the music
industry and do what I was really passionate about
- fitness. She made sense, and I made my "decision"
right then. I began to study for my certification
as a fitness trainer, and the rest is history.
